Believe in the Future

Plant-A-Garden-Believe-in-Tomorrow

I’ll be honest. I’m not good at gardening. I always have big ideas, plans and dreams for our future garden. I’ve spent several winters studying, planning, calculating and drawing up graden bed sketches, but in the end, my husband ends up doing most of the work – thus far.

Year after year, I’ve had other excuses to keep me out of the garden. A couple of pregnancies, post pregnancy, remodeling, and an international move.

I promise, one day real soon, I will grab my gardening shovel and get my hands dirty again!

Do you believe in tomorrow?

I do!

I mean, if you put a plant in the ground today, you must believe that there will be many tomorrows for your efforts to pay off, right?

But gardening is also a promise you make. A commitment. It takes more than just putting a seed into the ground and covering it back up with soil. You have to care for it. Nurture it. Visit it on a regular basis and check in to make sure it isn’t being attacked by any hidden pests.

Taking on that commitment as a parent is even more daunting. When we have a child, whether we were prepared or not, we are making an agreement to care for them and give them what they need for far longer than just one season of gardening. As a parent, rather than water from a watering can, you pour out of yourself daily in belief that there will be many tomorrows, and that the end will yield a good harvest.

There must be a belief that all of your sacrifice will result in your child being ready for their own family, a career and everything else the world can throw at them.

You may be currently enjoying the fruit of parenting with your children, spending time outdoors, cuddling up to tell a story or maybe digging in the garden yourselves. If you belief in tomorrow is bringing you joy today, then soak it in!

You may, though, be in a difficult time, in a not so fruitful time and feel that your effort isn’t worth it, but remember to believe. Just like tilling your garden is a lot of hard work, so is leading and guiding your children but I promise you, that it is always worth it for tomorrow.

Hi! I'm Jenn! I'm an ambitious, creative and natural mama of four awesome kids: Amy (born in 2010), Blake (2011), Cody (2013), Lulu (2014) - yeah my husband and I took a year off in 2012 - go ahead, call us lazy :) My husband Gerhard, our four kids and I live in America’s heartland on a small, in-town acreage in Iowa – but that is pretty new. We are still grounding after an international move from Germany. This is not an understatement, an international move is WAY different than a normal move, but that is a whole different story! I am here to share our love, knowledge and experiences of waldorf in the home including holistic toys, crafts and food. My goal is also to share helpful tips on natural parenting and healthy play.
